Miami University Water Ski Club

Article 1: Purpose of Organization
- The purpose of the Miami University Water Ski Club is to promote the sport of water-skiing at Miami, to represent the University at intercollegiate competitions of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association, and to host competitions for other teams in the Midwest Conference of the NCWSA.

Article 2: Membership & Eligibility Requirements
- In order to participate in skiing activities one must become an active member. One may become an active member by:
- Paying club dues
- Joining the NCWSA as an active member
- Membership may be revoked upon a two-thirds vote of the officers. Upon termination of membership, the individual is required to pay all debts owed to the Club and is entitled to no refund of dues, expenses, etc.
- To maintain active membership and to be eligible for inter-collegiate water ski competition as a representative of Miami University, a member shall miss no two meetings in succession and/or shall miss no meeting immediately prior to any one competition unless previously authorized by the president.
- Trial basis for students who want to try the club out, must pay American Water Ski Association insurance. When a student comes to more than one practice or club event they will be considered a member and will be asked to pay dues in full to continue to attend club activities. All members, whether on a trial basis or permanent basis, must sign a Recreational Sports waiver of liability to be permitted to attend a practice.
- The Miami University Water Ski Club does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation or veterans’ status.
- Hazing is strictly prohibited as outlined by University Policy in the Code of Student Conduct – Appendix C and state law.
- All club members are required to sign and date a liability release form and emergency form (annually) before taking part in any club activity.
Article 3: Meetings, Practices, and Events
- Meetings of the active members shall be held no less than once per month. Time, place, and the frequency of meetings shall be determined by the officers
- Participants will be charged per event. Although this fee varies, it will be approximately $30.
- The Miami University Water Ski Team shall be composed of twenty (20) skiers.

- Five (5) A-Team Women
- Five (5) B-Team Men
- Five (5) B-Team Women
- Team members will be chosen by the team captain in a manner prescribed by the team captain.
- Each individual member of the Miami University Water Ski Team may be responsible for sharing the lodging and transportation costs associated with an intercollegiate competition. These costs should be outlines prior to participation.
- The MasterCraft:
- Towing
- In order to be eligible to tow the boat a member must be an officer, must have completed a safety video, passed the trailer towing test, as well as obtained the permission of the president.
- Use of personal vehicles for towing is strictly prohibited.
- Driving
- Only officers will be eligible to drive the boat. Eligibility will be dependent on meeting any and all requirements. These requirements include completing a safety course and obtaining their educational certificate in the state of Ohio and completing the required amount of shadowing hours, usually three (3).
- Check In/Out
- In order to take the boat, an eligible officer must date and initial the sign in/out sheet inside the Recreational Sports Center at the Pro Shop.
- The boat will be only leave the storage location when the aforementioned check in/out procedure has been completed.
- Upkeep
- The Vice President will be responsible for all boat upkeep including cleaning, insurance updating, license plates and registration, and maintenance.
- A medical kit will be present in the boat at all times.
Article 4: Executive Board
- The officers of the Miami University Water Ski Club shall be; President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Men’s Capitan, Women’s Capitan, Fundraising Chair, Recruitment Chair, and Technology Chair.
- The officers are required to have no less than one executive meeting per semester to determine budgets, social activities, agendas, tournament specifics, etc.
- Qualifications for office in the Miami University Water Ski Club shall be one year’s active membership in the Miami University Water Ski Club.
- Vacancies in any office will be filed by election at any meeting in which a majority of members are present.
- All disciplinary actions recommended by the President shall be decided by the officers in accordance with the advisor(s), coache(s), and University policy.
- The President shall chair all meetings, both general and executive, of the Miami University Water Ski Club. The President shall register the organization annually with the Sports Club Coordinator and the Office of Student Activities. The President shall act as a liaison to governing bodies of the University, such as Associated Student Government, and Student Affairs Council. The President shall appoint all added committees and monitor their operation. The President shall arrange a rented vehicle annually for the season during intercollegiate competitions appropriate for towing the boat. The President shall arrange for storage and repairs of the boat when appropriate. The President shall uphold and enforce all regulations in this document, except as otherwise noted herein. The President shall recommend disciplinary actions to be taken by the officers in accordance with the advisor and coaches, for violation of any regulation found herein.
- The Vice-President shall assist the President in fulfilling their duties and shall assume the President’s responsibilities in the President’s absence or upon the President’s request. The Vice-President shall organize all Club Trips and competitions including transportation, pre-event checklists, liability waivers and release forms accommodations, and filing accident reports.
- The Treasurer shall keep a detailed account of all club financial transactions and/or activities, and shall make a report of said transactions/activities at every meeting. The Treasurer shall be responsible for reimbursements, check requests, and deposits on behalf of the club.
- The Secretary shall keep record of all club activities and membership lists and statuses. The Secretary shall keep record of minutes at all meetings and email these minutes immediately upon adjournment of the meeting. The Secretary shall be responsible for notification of all members of any upcoming meeting or activity. The Secretary shall work with the Vice-President to make sure the appropriate forms are filled out for each competition.
- Men’s and Women’s Captain shall be responsible for all registration of the team and its members at intercollegiate competitions. The Captains will conduct all business of the team and will represent the team at all applicable intercollegiate NCWSA functions, tournaments, and related activities. The Captains shall oversee weekly practices to assign members to Miami University Water Ski Team rosters and be present regularly at practices. The Captains shall be responsible for bringing all equipment to practice and competitions as well as maintain the storage of said equipment.
- Fundraising Chair shall be responsible for arranging all fundraising activities and shall be responsible for completing appropriate forms necessary. The Fundraising Chair is responsible for no less than two fundraising activities each academic year. The Fundraising Chair shall give any and all proceeds to the Treasurer upon completion of fundraiser.
- Recruitment Chair shall be responsible for arranging all recruitment events and shall be responsible for completing appropriate forms necessary. The Recruitment Chair is responsible for Mega Fair, Freshman Move-In, and post-season recruitment events.
- The Technology Chair shall be responsible for the Miami University Water Ski Club’s website as well as the listserv and it’s continuous update.
Article 5: Elections and Impeachment
- The officers shall be elected by popular vote at a meeting, typically in November, to be scheduled between the last tournament and the end of the fall semester. The officers shall take office immediately.
Article 6: Financial Management
- All financial management will be under the responsibility of the treasurer. These responsibilities are discussed in detail under Article 4.
Article 7: Affiliations / National Governing Bodies
- The Miami Water Ski Club associates with National Collegiate Water Ski Association. (www.ncwsa.com) and USA Water Ski (www.usawaterki.org)
Article 8: Coaches and Advisors
- Advisors will be required to attend at least one (1) meeting a year.
- This article will be required to be developed if coaching is found.
Article 9: Safety & Risk Management Plan
- High Risk
- Hazard 1: Injury due to the boat
- Countermeasures: Coaches and active members will teach proper boating behavior to new members and will oversee that all members adhere to correct behavior. An officer will be present whenever the boat is present to ensure proper behavior and all rules and regulations recommended by MasterCraft and the NCWSA are followed.
- Hazard 2: Lightning during activities
- Countermeasures: The boat will not be taken out, nor will members be permitted to enter the water if lightening is seen or predicted to occur during the time period scheduled for practice or competition.
- Medium Risk
- Hazard 1: Injury due to travel
- Countermeasures: Only members who have attended a travel safety meeting are eligible to drive or lead a trip.
- Low Risk
- Hazard 1: Risk of drowning
- Countermeasures: All members are required to know how to swim and life jackets will be in present and available in the boat at all times. Any member participating must be wearing a lifejacket or flotation device.
Article 10: Ratification and Amendments
- Amendments may be made at any regular meeting of the active members in which a majority of members are present. Such amendment will need a three-fifths majority to pass.
- Constitution will be sent out at the beginning of the year and approved at the first team meeting.
