Article I: Name
The official title the club will use will be Miami Water Polo Club (MWPC)
Article II: Purpose
MWPC exists to both promote the sport of water polo on Miami's campus and serve to represent the University elsewhere that competition takes the club. The Club supports two separate, but equal Men's and Woman's teams,
Article III: Membership
Membership will be open to all people affiliated with Miami University who are interested in competing in and promoting the sport of water polo. MWPC does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, age, or handicap in the activities, programs, and operation of the club, or the selection of its members. Members in good standing will adhere to those rules defined in Article VI; failure to do so will result in expulsion of the club.
Article IV: Executive Board
MWPC's executive board will consist of five members: President, Vice-President (Men's team), Vice-President (Woman's Team), Secretary, and Treasurer. Terms of office will be for one year from majority election by the club at the beginning of each school year. Vacancies will be filled by following the same nomination and election procedures allowed for in Article V as needed through the year.
A. President: The president will be responsible for the overseeing of the club and seeing that the other officers carry out their designated duties. The position of the president will act as the primary liaison for the Recreation Center's Program Director of Aquatics and the Director of Miami Club Sports.
B. Vice-President: There will be two officers at the level of vice-president; one representing the Men's team and one from the Woman's, and both sharing identical responsibilities for their respective teams. They shall be responsible to the President and act in the President's place when the President is unable to fulfill their duties. The primary VP in charge, in such a situation, will be determined by which team is team is in season. The Vice president will also be responsible for the organization and direction of fundraising activities for their team.
C. Treasurer: The treasurer will be responsible for all monies through, Associated Student Government appropriation, dues and fundraising activities. The treasurer will authorize, allocate and distribute all funds for tournaments and expenses for club operation. All monies passing through MWPC will be accounted for in a ledger format that will also be the treasurer's responsibility.
D. Secretary: The Secretary will be responsible for the following duties: keeping of the club records other than those kept by the treasurer, taking minutes of the club's meetings, keeping records of the team's competitions, preparing contracts for home and away tournaments, and making changes in the MWPC constitution as designated by majority vote of the club.
Article V: Elections
Elections for the Executive Board will be conducted every spring at the beginning of the school year. Nominations for officers will be taken from the floor and a majority vote will determine the winning candidate. With the exception of the Vice-President position, any member in good standing will be eligible for any position and there are no term limits. In the case of a tie, the acting president will serve as the tiebreaker.
Article VI: Affiliation/ Rules
MWPC operates under the governing body of United States Water Polo and competes in leagues of the Collegiate Water Polo Association and abides by all rules and regulations of those organizations. MWPC also abides by all pertinent regulations of Miami University and the Recreational Sports Center.
Article VII: Advisor
A tenured faculty member from the University will be selected by the executive committee to serve as faculty advisor to the team. The advisor will aid in shaping club policy and act as on behalf of the club to the University as deemed appropriate by the executive committee.
Article VII: Coach
Coaches will act as internal associates of the team and its operation, and are subject to all rules of the club as described in this document. Along with standard coaching practices, the coach may act in an advisory role in the operation of the team as deemed appropriate by the acting executive board. Eligibility is open to anyone, including outside of the club, and is dependent upon a majority vote of confidence from the team which can called at any time.
Article VIII: Ratification
Any club member may propose changes or amendments to the MWPC constitution and its ratification is contingent on a 2/3-majority vote of the club.
