12/07/2006 - Oxford, OH - Following a successful weekend at the Miami Invitational, the RedHawks are off until January 12th when they face MAC Rival Toledo.

Miami University's women's swimming and diving team ran away with the Miami Invitational, racking up 1873.5 points in the three-day meet. Truman State was the RedHawks' closest competition, scoring 1452.5 points to place second, while Denison finished third with 1200 points. Oakland (1159.5), Cincinnati (1044), Emory (821), Houston (714.5), Wright State (610), Marshall (554), Cleveland State (237) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (134) rounded out the scoring for the meet.
Miami's 200 medley "A" relay team of sophomore Malarie Schmidt, freshman Karen Frazier, sophomore Allison Stevens and senior Margaret Patrick posted a time of 1:45.22 to place first, while the RedHawks' "B" relay team of sophomore Tenley Marsteller, junior Kristen Bezier, freshman Allison Way and senior Diana Zeleznikar recorded a time of 1:47.49 to finish sixth in the 200 medley relay event.
In the 200 backstroke, Miami had three swimmers place in the "B" Finals, led by Schmidt's 10th-place finish in a time of 2:08.69. She was followed by sophomore Alyson Schmidt's 14th-place finish and Marsteller's 16th-place finish.
Senior Ashley Seymour led the RedHawks in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 5:03.46 to finish in third place, while sophomore Jennifer Flaherty clocked a time of 5:07.90 to finish. Miami had two RedHawks finish among the top four in the 100 butterfly with Stevens turning in a time of 56.66 to finish second and junior Kathryn Stephens touching the wall in 56.72 to finish fourth.
With a time of 2:19.66, freshman Karen Frazier finished third for the RedHawks in the 200 breastroke. Sophomore Paige Iversen clocked in with a time of 2:22.17 to finish in fifth place in the event. Stevens led the RedHawks in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 52.01 to finish in fifth place, while sophomore Jennifer Nemeth recorded a time of 52.79 to finish in eighth place.
Frazier led a trio of Miami swimmers in the "A" finals of the 200 IM, clocking a time of 2:07.49 to win the event. Schmidt recorded a time of 2:08.98 to place fourth, while Seymour touched the wall in 2:09.08 to finish in fifth place.
With a final score of 253.35, freshman diver Kelsey Anagnos edged her nearest competition by 1.6 points to capture the 1-meter diving event. Three other RedHawks placed among the top eight with sophomore Melissa Roemmele placing fourth (240.50), freshman Rachel Smith placing sixth (222.00) and sophomore Alex Enriquez finishing eighth (232.40).
In the 400 freestyle relay, Miami's team of Stevens, Nemeth, Patrick and Bezier notched a time of 3:28.52 to place seconds, while the team of Stephens, Zeleznikar, Way and Schmidt finished in sixth place in a time of 3:32.21.
