The Miami University women's swimming and diving team (2-0; 2-0 MAC) won 11 events and completed a weekend conference sweep with a 196.5-107.5 victory over the Buffalo Bulls Saturday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Following up a strong performance in its season-opening meet against Akron on Friday, Miami had nine different athletes post individual wins, with junior Kristen Bezier and senior Diana Zeleznikar each notching a pair of victories. Bezier, a 2006 all-MAC first team selection, placed first in both the 200 freestyle (1:53.48) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.84), while Zeleznikar swept the butterfly events, earning victories in the 100 butterfly (58.15) and 200 butterfly (2:07.64).
Miami opened the meet by winning the first four events and jumping out to a comfortable lead it carried throughout the meet. After a first-place finish by Miami's "A" relay team in the 200 medley relay (1:49.20), senior Ashley Seymour and Bezier posted back-to-back wins in the 1,000 freestyle (10:33.73) and 200 freestyle (1:53.48), respectively. Sophomore Tenley Marsteller then made it four straight wins for the Red and White with her top finish in the 100 backstroke (59.89).
After a Buffalo victory in the 100 breaststroke, Zeleznikar posted her first win of the meet in the 100 butterfly and senior Margaret Patrick sprinted to a first-place clocking in the 50 freestyle (24.07). Sophomore Allison Stevens then sandwiched in a victory in the 100 freestyle (53.43) between a pair of Buffalo wins in the one-meter dive and 200 backstroke.

The RedHawks closed out the meet by winning four of the final six events, including three straight following Buffalo's win in the 200 backstroke. Bezier started the Miami winning streak with her top finish in the 200 breaststroke, and junior Kathryn Stephens and Zeleznikar followed with wins in the 500 freestyle (5:05.84) and 100 butterfly, respectively. Sophomore Malarie Schmidt notched Miami's final win of the meet in the 200 individual medley (2:10.93)
In the diving events, freshman Kelsey Anagnos and sophomore Alex Enriquez were the top Miami finishers, placing as the runner-ups in the one- and three-meter dives, respectively.
Frazier is Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

After setting a new 100 breaststroke varsity record in her first collegiate meet, Miami University freshman Karen Frazier (Placerville, Calif.) has been tabbed as the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Frazier became the first Miamian since 2005 to reset a varsity swimming record, as she clocked in with a time of 1:04.18 in the 100 breaststroke against Akron (Oct. 27). Frazier's time broke the seven-year-old Miami record of 1:04.20 held by four-time MAC Champion Amanda Furlano. Frazier also reset Furlano's freshman record of 1:04.52, which had stood for nine seasons.
In addition, Frazier notched individual wins against Akron in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.56) with the 10th-best time in program history and the 200 individual medley (2:09.00). Frazier's three individual wins paced Miami in its 186-11 season-opening win over Akron, and another strong performance against Buffalo (Oct. 28) helped Miami extend its MAC dual meet win streak to 41.
The athlete of the week award is the first of Frazier's career, and she is the first Miami swimmer to earn the honor since Christen Fout took home the award on Feb. 22, 2005. The last Miami athlete to win the award was Christin Eberst on Nov. 8, 2005.
