1/28/2007 - Cleveland, OH - Picking up her second individual conference honor of the week, Miami University sophomore swimmer Allison Stevens (Laurel, Md./James Hubert Blake) has been tabbed as the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Stevens (3.8 GPA/Journalism), who also was named the MAC Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday, earned the award after winning four individual events and helping Miami keeps it undefeated record intact.

Winning four freestyle events last week, Stevens helped Miami post wins over Cincinnati, Marshall, Radford and conference foe Ohio. In Miami's 151-88 win over Cincinnati (Jan. 16), Stevens posted a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:52.85). She then followed with a 50 freestyle victory in a triangular meet victory over Marshall (W, 188-11) and Radford (W, 231-49), clocking in with a top time of 24.50. Saving her best for last, Stevens closed the week with a pair of top finishes against Ohio, turning in first-place times in both the 100 (52.29) and 200 freestyle (1:52.43). She was the only Miamian to post a pair of individual victories against the Bobcats.
Stevens' strong performance during the week pushed Miami's overall record to 10-0 and 6-0 in the MAC. A Miami victory over Bowling Green Friday will give Miami its sixth straight season with a perfect conference dual meet record, while a weekend sweep of Bowling Green and Kenyon will give the RedHawks their first perfect season since going 10-0 in 1977.
For Stevens, the scholar-athlete award was the first of her career, while the conference honor is her second of the week after taking home the swimmer of the week honor only three days ago. The RedHawks are now off for two weeks as they prepare for the MAC Championships which begin on Wednesday, February 14th at Eastern Michigan.
