CURRENT CAMPAIGN

FAIR LABOR AWARENESS

Students for Staff, a group closely affiliated with Students for Peace and Justice, caters to students who wish to initiate a broad debate concerning the allocation of worker pay in the university budget. For more information, refer to the SFS link on any of the SPJ pages.

PROGRESSIVE NEWSLETTER

Popular discussion of the Miami Student has compelled several students from Students for Peace and Justice to form an independetly run progressive monthly publication featuring various opinions on various topics. The motivation driving this project is to enrich campus-wide discussion by adding a more scholarly dimension to discussion than most current student-run publications are offering.

AFRICA

Poverty arguably functions as the single greatest threat to humankind and can be found in various forms and by various causes globally. Parting from our traditional focus on human rights and poverty alleviation in Latin America, Students for Peace and Justice is now beginning a campaign of awareness for poverty in Africa as well as any U.S. role in global economic structures contributing to it. Look for scattered information on campus.

WITNESS FOR PEACE

Each year, a group of students (including selected candidates who are not part of Students for Peace and Justice) travel with Witness for Peace to a Latin American country in order to examine its living conditions and relationship with the United States. Refer to our photos section to see selected shots from Mexico and Nicaragua. Stay tuned for this year's destination!

FAIR TRADE COFFEE VICTORY

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to our recent success to get fair trade coffee served on campus! You can now find Pura Vida Fair Trade coffee brewed at Bell Tower, Greystone, and Ovations. We will be working to expand fair trade machinery and coffee availability, so stay tuned!
