Guidelines for Submission
Oxford Magazine accepts fiction, poetry, and essays (this last genre is a catch-all, much like the space under your couch cushions, and includes creative nonfiction, critical work exploring writing, and the like). Appearing once a year, OxMag is a web-based journal that acquires first North American serial rights, one-time anthology rights and online serial rights. Simultaneous submissions are okay if you would kindly let us know if and when someone beats us to the punch.
Please send only one manuscript at a time. This means one story (twenty page maximum, after that we start to thumb wrestle), one essay or three to five poems. Essays should not exceed fifteen pages and should be cited according to MLA standards.
OxMag accepts electronic submissions. Please send the files as Word documents (.doc) or Rich Text Files (.rtf) attached to your email, and please put your name and submission genre (poetry, fiction, essay) in the subject line of your e-mail. Snail mail is fine, but snails get eaten because they are slow. Nobody eats e-mails.
All submissions should include your name, address, and e-mail address (or phone number, if you have no e-mail address) where you can be reached.
Print submissions should include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

We make every effort to respond within twelve weeks. Occasionally it may take longer. If you start to itch, don’t scratch it! It only makes it worse. Feel free to contact us via e-mail if your fingernails have grown to at least a quarter inch (six months). Then clip them.
