The mission statement of the Oxford Museum Association emphasizes the promotion of "awareness and appreciation of area history through education, public programs and preservation of historic sites". It is the goal of the Association to bring a sense of the past to today's generation and to pass that understanding along to generations to come.

Educational endeavors encompass a broad range of participatory activities extending from educational tours, to interactive workshops, to internships for university students engaged in certification in history, museum studies, theatre, communicaions and other related areas. An Educational Outreach Coordinator maintains responsibility for designing educational experiences for young historians.

A wardrobe of period costumes has been created by "needle women" within the organization. Summer interns asssume the persona of individuals within the historical framework of museum sites.
