Below, you will find a a list of meetings and events the MU-STC group has been involved in. Please take a moment to look over these events to get a feel for what we do and what we can provide you as a BATSC or MTSC student.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our meetings during the 2003-2004 school year.

April 2003
For our last meeting of the 2002-2003 school year, we held a joint meeting with the Southwest Ohio Chapter of STC. The speaker, Pam Gewin, lead a discussion on "what it takes to get to the interview." Gewin works as a technical recruiter for ResovIT Resources of Cincinnati.

Before the discussion, students had the opportunity (like at all SWO-STC meetings) to network with professional technical communicators from the Cincinnati area and the Dayton area. Our members were able to pass out their business cards they created during March's meeting. This is the best way to find out about what's going on in the world of technical communication and also one of the best ways to go about finding an internship or a job.

March 2003
Michele Simmons made a guest appearance at the month's meeting. She gave a short presentation on how to use effective design principles when creating a business card. Following her presentation, BATSCs and MTSCs were given the opportunity to create their own business cards for use at the upcoming meeting in April.

February 2003
Our speakers, Mike Haap and Gerald Cook, shared the details of their particular positions and gave great advice for interviewing and improving your "skill sets," no matter if you are looking for a job or have been working for several years.

Bowl-Out!
We had a great time bowling the Friday before Thanksgiving Break. We bowled, ate FREE pizza, got to watch some real bowlers in the lane next to us, and tried to figure out a digital camera (we're supposed to understand these technical things aren't we?).

We will be bowling again next year before Thanksgiving break for sure (maybe even in the Spring if we run out of other meeting ideas).

October 2002
In October, 15 members of MU-STC (which is you, if you are a BATSC or MTSC major) traveled to the Hamiltonion Hotel (Hamilton, Ohio) to take part in Southwest Ohio-STC's monthly meeting.

The evening included a networking session, which our members found very interesting and informative. Following the networking was dinner (a most important aspect of the evening). Following dinner, the guest speaker spoke on the evening's topic of A Visual Approach to Aligning Communications & Training Initiatives to Strategy. Everyone there received a great overview and demonstration of how this company uses Microsoft Visio to get the point across to clients.

September 2002
September's meeting was a simple get together at Pedro's (Uptown). We, the officers, wanted to hear from you, our members, about what you would like us to do this year for you.

We received many ideas. Many people we found are interested in hearing from professional technical communicators about what he or she does in the industry. Along with this, people would like to see demonstration nights that showed real-life uses for projects done in class. Having seen how something can be used in the "real world" can be very motivating.

We'll see what we can do!
