Student Initiatve Fund
Jens Sutmoller, Student Body President

Dear Student,

Would you like FREE MONEY? If so- I’m writing to inform you of an opportunity to pursue independent projects or study with the intention of benefiting the Miami Community. Student Initiative Funding (SIF) is a pool of funds available through Student Government to sponsor creative student work. The only requirements are that you are not requesting funds on behalf of a student organization, and that you will benefit the Miami Community through your work. Average grant awards are 500 dollars; past grants have sponsored independent theatre, gallery installations, and speakers.

The application process for SIF funding is as follows- if you would like to undertake a creative project, please type a short description including information about the following points.

a. A statement of the goal of the initiative, specifically identifying its benefits to portions of the University community.
b. A statement addressing why funding from the SIF is necessary to implement the initiative and stating any assistance, support, or other involvement in the program or project.

Please also provide

- A business plan including an analysis of the initiative’s marketing ability (i.e., how the program will be publicized and measures taken to ascertain that members of the Miami community will be interested).
- A detailed budget for the initiative accompanied by documentation verifying projected costs and comparing costs of the proposal to costs of similar programs. This budget should include:

i. A list of all sources of project funds including private donations, funds from academic departments or divisions, and fund-raising activities which support the initiative. (any outside funding sources)
ii. A list of other funding sources approached but unable or unwilling to provide funding.
iii. Itemized expenditures; and
iv. Cost comparisons if available

Hope to see your proposal soon!
