ARTICLE II. The Executive Cabinet

There shall be elected from the student body: a President, an Executive Vice President, a Vice President for Management, a Vice President for Student Services, and a Vice President for Campus Activities.

There shall be an Executive Cabinet, chaired by the Student Body President. The Cabinet shall consist of the President, the four elected Vice Presidents of the Student Body, the Secretary for Academic Affairs, the Secretary for On-Campus Affairs, the Secretary for Off-Campus Affairs, the Secretary for Diversity Affairs, the ASG Treasurer, the ASG Communications Director, and the Secretary to the Executive Cabinet.

 

President of the Student Body

09.203.A. The President of the Student Body is the elected representative of the students and is vested with the executive power of the ASG.

09.203.B. The President shall serve as the student member of the University Senate Executive Committee as required by the University Senate bylaws.

09.203.C. The President shall sit ex-officio, nonvoting on any committee, council, board, or agency of the Student Senate or Executive Council.

09.203.D. The President shall have the power to call the Student Senate and/or the Executive Council into special session.

09.203.E. The President shall appear once a semester to give the Student Senate information on the State of the Student Body and recommend to their consideration such measures as the President shall judge necessary.

09.203.F. The President shall act as the official representative of the student body at all official functions.

09.203.G. The President shall use the executive power vested in him/her to uphold and support the Constitution and Bylaws of the ASG, implement the legislation of the Student Senate, enforce the rulings of the Student Court, and pursue courses of action in the interest of the student body. He/she shall perform these duties in conjunction with the Executive Council, ASG Executive Cabinet, and the Student Senate.

09.203.H. The President shall serve as the chair of the ASG Executive Cabinet and Executive Council and vote only in the event of a tie.

09.203.I. The President shall serve as the chief director for the ASG and assume final responsibility for the proper execution of the decisions and desires of the Executive Council and the Student Senate.

09.203.J. The President shall supervise and assist the four Vice Presidents of the Student Body in the execution of their duties.

09.203.K. The President shall perform other duties as directed by the Executive Council and/or the Student Senate.

 

Executive Vice President

09.204.A. To assist the President in the fulfillment of his/her responsibilities in the President’s absence.

09.204.B. To preside over the Student Senate and vote only in the event of a tie.

09.204.C. To place, as soon as possible, all appropriate proposals passed by Student Senate on the agenda of either SAC or University Senate and act as the liaison for ASG in all legislative matters.

09.204.D. To serve as the ASG liaison with the branch campuses.

09.204.E. To sit as an ex-officio, nonvoting member of any council, committee, or board of Student Senate.

09.204.F. To perform any duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet and/or Student Senate.

09.204.G. To coordinate and manage a voter registration drive in the Oxford community.

09.204.H. To appoint, supervise and assist the ASG Committee Coordinator with the appointing, by the end of the second semester and with the approval of the Student Senate, all undergraduate student members of all proper committees, as defined by legislation, and with the reviewing of and reporting on, as necessary, said committees.

09.204.I. To appoint, supervise and assist the ASG Historian when compiling the Legislative Record and Historical Record.

09.204.J. To supervise and assist in the activities of the Secretary for Academic Affairs.

09.204.K. To assist the Student Body President in the execution of his/her duties.

 

Vice President for Student Services

09.205.A. To take direct responsibility for activities and policies in the area of residence life. To cooperate and collaborate with the Secretary for On-Campus Affairs on all issues pertaining to residence hall living, and forwarding all pertinent legislation from the RHA to the appropriate body.

09.205.B. To take direct responsibility for activities and policies in the area of off-campus affairs.

09.205.C. To take direct responsibility for activities and policies in the area of diversity affairs. These duties include, but are not limited to, the progress of affirmative action at Miami University, to heighten cultural awareness and racial interaction, and to create a more diverse University community.

09.205.D. To chair the Student Legal Services Board and monitor the Student Legal Services program. These duties include maintaining an updated enrollment list, selecting the attorney in the springtime prior to their term, collaborating with the Student Legal Service Attorney to promote education and awareness of student legal rights, and any other duties to enhance the quality of the service.

09.205.E. To be responsible for maintaining and attending to concerns in areas outside the Miami University community as they pertain to the Student Body; specifically at local, state, and national levels. These duties include, but are not limited to, working with the Executive Vice President and the Student Senate to pass legislation supporting efforts that positively affect higher education and Miami University students.

09.205.F. To assist the Student Body President in the execution of his/her duties.

09.205.G. To perform any other duties as directed by the ASG Executive Cabinet and/or the Student Senate.

 

Vice President for Campus Activities

09.206.A. To work with and assist other programming organizations with their programming efforts.

09.206.B. To chair CAC and direct the actions of its various committees.

09.206.C. To assist the Student Body President in the execution of his/her duties.

09.206.D. To perform any other duties as directed by the ASG Executive Cabinet and/or the Student Senate.

 

Vice President for Management

09.207.A. ASG Budget

The VP for Management, in collaboration with the ASG Treasurer, the RHA Finance Director, and the CAC Finance Director, shall determine a budget request for ASG, RHA, and CAC for the following academic year. Two Student Senate meetings prior to submitting the request to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the VP for Management shall present the proposed budget requests to the Student Senate for its approval.
At the third Student Senate meeting of the academic year, the general budget of the ASG (for the current year) shall be presented to the Student Senate and approved no later than the fifth meeting of the Student Senate.


09.207.B. To direct all business service operations of ASG and execute all necessary contractual obligations.

09.207.C. To compile, publish, and distribute the First-Year Record.

09.207.D. To direct the activities of the ASG Book Exchange.

09.207.E. To supervise and assist in the activities of the ASG Treasurer and ASG Communications Director.

09.207.F. To assist the Student Body President in the execution of his/her duties.

09.207.G. To perform any other duties as directed by the ASG Executive Cabinet and/or the Student Senate.

 

Secretary for Academic Affairs

09.210.A. The Secretary, working in conjunction with the ASG Executive Cabinet, takes responsibility for all activities and policies in the area of academic affairs. These duties include, but are not limited to, augmenting the intellectual climate of the University, furthering student academic interests, and the generation of academic reform.

09.210.B. The Secretary shall direct and implement the Outstanding Professor Award.

09.210.C. The Secretary shall maintain contact with members of University bodies dealing with academic affairs including, but not limited to, University Senate, Liberal Education Council, and the Academic Policy Committee.

09.210.D. The Secretary shall work under the supervision of the Executive Vice President, and shall be assisted in the execution of his/her duties by that officer.

09.210.E. The Secretary shall perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet, the Student Senate, and/or the Executive Vice President.

09.210.F. The Secretary shall chair the Academic Affairs Coalition.

 

Secretary for On-Campus Affairs

09.211.A. The Secretary shall take responsibility for all activities in the area of Residence Hall Association (RHA).

09.211.B. The Secretary shall serve as President of the RHA and shall abide by the RHA Constitution and Bylaws unless such rules contradict or are in conflict with the ASG Constitution and Bylaws.

09.211.C. The Secretary shall coordinate all hall councils and direct legislation to the Student Senate.

09.211.D. The Secretary shall provide for the training of all residence hall officers.

09.211.E. The Secretary shall work under the supervision of the Vice President for Student Services, and shall be assisted in the execution of his/her duties by that officer.

09.211.F. The Secretary shall perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet, the Student Senate, and/or the Vice President of Student Services.

09.211.G. The Secretary shall represent on-campus students on RHMAG.

09.211.H. The Secretary shall live on campus during the year in which he or she serves.

 

Secretary for Off-Campus Affairs

09.212.A. The Secretary shall take responsibility for all activities in the area of off-campus affairs.

09.212.B. The Secretary shall serve as the liaison to the Oxford City Council and the Oxford City Chamber of Commerce, and the Oxford Police Department.

09.212.C. The Secretary shall be in charge of the organization and continuing operation of the Oxford Tenants Organization (OTO).

09.212.D. The Secretary shall appoint the staff of and recruit membership of the OTO.

09.212.E. The Secretary shall supervise the yearly publication and revision of a guide for off-campus living.

09.212.F. The Secretary shall work under the supervision of the Vice President for Student Services and shall be assisted in the execution of his/her duties by that officer.

09.212.G. The Secretary shall perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet, the Student Senate, and/or the Vice President for Student Services.

09.211.H. The Secretary shall live off campus during the year in which he or she serves.

 

Secretary for Diversity Affairs

09.213.A. The Secretary shall take responsibility for activities in the area of diversity affairs including, but not limited to, the progress of affirmative action at Miami; to heighten cultural awareness and racial integration; to create a more diverse University community.

09.213.B. The Secretary shall chair the Diversity Affairs Council and direct its activities.

09.213.C. The Secretary shall collaborate with, represent, and maintain active communication with the various minority groups on campus.

09.213.D. The Secretary shall work with and assist in coordinating and communicating with the various minority and majority groups on issues pertaining to diversity and unity.

09.213.E. The Secretary shall be responsible for organizing at least one open forum to discuss the current and future state of diversity at Miami University.

09.213.F. The Secretary shall be responsible for organizing diversity awareness week.

09.213.G. The Secretary shall maintain contact with the Equity and Equal Opportunity Officer and the Director of Diversity Affairs.

09.213.H. The Secretary shall serve as adviser to the Committee on Diversity Affairs.

09.213.I. The Secretary shall work under the supervision of the Vice President for Student Services and shall be assisted in the execution of his/her duties by that officer.

09.213.J. The Secretary shall perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet, the Student Senate, and/or the Vice President for Student Services.

 

Treasurer

09.214.A. The Treasurer shall take responsibility for the direction of all financial matters of the ASG, including but not limited to:

Performing bookkeeping duties for all of ASG’s university accounts.
Executing payments and procurement of revenues.
Administering the payroll of ASG Executive Cabinet officers and employees.
Preparing the ASG budget request to the appropriate body in conjunction with the Vice President for Management.


09.214.B. The Treasurer shall work under the supervision of the Vice President for Management, and shall be assisted in the execution of his/her duties by that officer.

09.214.C. The Treasurer shall perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet, the Student Senate, and/or the Vice President for Management.

 

Communications Director

09.215.A. The Director shall take responsibility for all activities of ASG in the areas of communication and publicity, including, but not limited to, preparation of materials submitted for consideration of the Student Senate or the Executive Cabinet, correspondence, and the compilation of minutes and status reports for distribution to the campus.

09.215.B. The Director shall maintain and support the ASG site on the Internet and the ASG listserv, and be responsible for any other computer facilities pertaining to ASG.

The minutes of the Student Senate shall be posted on the ASG Internet site no later than the Friday following each Student Senate meeting.
Other relevant documents and information shall be posted on the ASG Internet site at the discretion of the Student Senate, the ASG Executive Cabinet, or the Executive Council.
The Director shall serve as the computer consultant.


09.215.C. The Director shall publish and distribute weekly table flyers in accordance with Appendix C of the Student Handbook, Signs, Posters, and Banners.

09.215.D. The Director shall work under the supervision of the Vice President for Management, and shall be assisted in the execution of his/her duties by that officer.

09.215.E. The Director shall perform any other duties as directed by the Executive Cabinet, the Student Senate, and/or the Vice President for Management.

09.215.F. The Director shall serve as the editor of the Campus Link Newsletter to be published on alternating weeks at his or her discretion of the issue date.

 

Secretary to the Executive Cabinet

09.217.A. The Secretary to the Executive Cabinet shall be chiefly responsible for advising the ASG Cabinet and for assisting with the annual transition and shall further assist the Cabinet in the completion of their duties as so directed by that body.

The Secretary to the Executive Cabinet shall work closely with the ASG Adviser.


The Secretary to the Executive Cabinet shall work under the supervision of the Executive Vice President and shall be assisted in the completion of her/his duties by that officer.


09.217.B. The Secretary shall be further responsible for the task of committee coordination, and shall appoint, for Senate approval and by the end of the second semester, all undergraduate student members of all proper committees, as defined by legislation, and shall yet further be responsible for the reviewing of and reporting on, as necessary, said committees.

09.217.C. The outgoing President of the Student Body shall appoint the Secretary with the advice of the outgoing ASG Cabinet and with the consent of the outgoing Student Senate, by the end of the second semester of the year prior to that in which the Secretary shall serve.

09.217.D. In order to be appointed Secretary, one must have had at least one year of experience in an elected position within ASG.
