history
Once upon a time, in a land in the middle of nowhere called Oxford...
There were six women; women of hopes, dreams, and a purpose at Miami University. Their purpose still unbeknownst to them, these women would meet daily, a gathering of sorts among friends. Sharing a common interest, music was often the topic of conversation. Talk of starting an all female a cappella group brewed in their minds, as they mused of popular songs they would sing. The "imaginary group" would be called the Misfitz after the 80's cartoon Gem and the Holograms, because of its sultry style and risqué attitude. The girls laughed and thought about more fantastic things the Misfitz would do, never really thinking that their dreams would come true. Then one day, a woman of determination and purpose was inspired by these tales foretold, and was willed to do something about it. As if by magic (and quite a bit of hard work), six dreams were realized by one, and the group grew to include ten sexy Misfitz before it was formally established. The Misfitz a cappella group was established the year 2001. Though the idea of an edgy girls' a cappella group was romanticized about before, it never came together at Miami University until now.
The original founding members were Lisa Hanasono, Kelly Hollingsworth, Jessica Lavery, Mikayla Reed, Gina Roberts, Kelly Spirakus, Erica Stewart, Courtney Thomas, Liz Weithas, and Leila Williams
…and they are all pretty cute too.
Since then, the Misfitz have built a repertoire of music exceeding over 50 arrangements in the past six years of its existence, and continues to develop and improve with every passing year. The Misfitz carry sex appeal, class, and a sultry sound to the stage. With their devilishly good attitude, heaven doesn't want them, and hell can't handle them! They're the Misfitz!!
