President, Michael J. Bernstein

I am a second year graduate student working towards my PhD in Social Psychology. I spend most of my time during the week in meetings, reading, writing, and teaching, but the weekends I make sure to go out like the rest of the world. I love my department and have gotten a lot of great experience while here. My research deals primarily with how our categorizations of others as ingroup or outgroup members affects our other cognitions and behavior. I live on my computer, so if you want to contact me, that is the way to do it.

Associative Vice-President, Holli Sink

I'm a second year student in the clinical psychology PhD program. I've always loved children and became especially interested in child clinical psychology while working with youth at a psychiatric hospital and at a group home in North Carolina. I hope to one day work as a child psychologist in a private practice or hospital setting. I've really enjoyed my first year at Miami and love the smalltown feel of Oxford and the community of grad students I've gotten to know so far.

Administrative Vice-President, Lynn Hall

I am entering the second year of my master's program and am working towards a degree in literature.  My focus is on 20th Century British literature, as well as 20th Century British and American drama.  I am especially interested in examining gender issues and representations of women's roles within these areas.  I will begin applying to Ph.D. programs in the fall. I find Miami University a great place to teach and learn.

Treasurer, Sandi Connelly

I am a PhD Candidate in Zoology studying the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on lake ecosystems.  Specifically, I am interested in the direct effect of UV on lake species and how they are able to avoid and/or repair the DNA damage that is caused by UV.  UV induced DNA damage is the same across all organisms and in humans it is the greatest source of skin cancer.  Using integrated molecular and ecological tools, I am better able to understand the mechanisms underlying a species defense against environmental changes.  The integrative aspects of my work are the most interesting and I hope to continue my work in a future higher academic teaching and research position.

Miami is a terrific place to work on cross-discipline research in the
sciences.  Whether within or between departments, everyone is very open to new ideas and approaches, making collaborative research not only possible, but very exciting and extremely enjoyable!  This is something that is missing from many institutes of higher education, but what I see as being the heart of the future of science, and something of which Miami should be extremely proud of fostering!

Treasurer, Linda Hartmann

Communication Chair

Lecture Series Chair, Dawn Carr

I am a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology and Gerontology.  My research interests include the arts and aging, the development of the field of gerontology, with particular interests in the positive aspects of aging and the way older adults are valued by society.  I have found graduate school to be the best experience of my life thus far, which I attribute to the warm environment and personalized approach to learning that I have experienced.  This has strongly influenced my decision to pursue an academic career after I graduate.
