GLEAM Events

GLEAM hosts a number of social events throughout the academic year and administrative/political events and meetings when the need arises.

Activities and events vary depending on year-to-year interest in the group and how active the members are in any particular year, but on average, the group does the following at least once a semester:

  1. Joint Potluck with Spectrum, the university's student group, at a GLEAM member's house. This event lets Spectrum students and GLEAM members get to know each other, ask questions, and plan future events. The main focus of the potluck is letting Spectrum members know that there are GLTBSQI faculty and staff on campus and that they are not alone.

  2. An evening out on the town, usually in Cincinnati or Dayton. Sometimes known as a group "Dinner and a Movie," a group of GLEAMers will go to a gay-friendly restaurant and then a movie. In the past, this has usually been done at Hamburger Mary's and then the Esquire Theater in Cincinnati, depending on what was showing... you get the picture.

  3. Political events and rallies, depending on happenings and events that transpire on campus. These events usually are in reponse to a hate crime or incident on campus and are usually partnered with other groups at Miami and Oxford, such as PFLAG, the Black Student Union, or the No-Hate project.

  4. Other informal and spontaneous events that are published to the listserv, such as "a group of us are going to ..... Anyone else want to join?" type of events.
