Dear Interested Rower or Coxswain,
We are thrilled about your interest in the Miami University Rowing Club. The team began in 1988 making us one of the oldest club sports at Miami, and each year we have become larger and more competitive. We look forward to seeing you at our meetings and tryouts. Last year's novice group was one of the best in club history, and we hope this fall's group will be even better.
Rowing at Miami is a year round sport. The team
participates in head races in the fall, trains throughout the winter and competes again in the spring in sprint races. This past fall the team raced and medaled in Cincinnati, Occoquan, VA, Columbus and Chattanooga, TN. The team also sends a boat to the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston.
Every fall the club takes in as many as 32 new rowers -- 16 men and 16 women -- most of whom have no rowing experience. Organized into four eight-person crews, each crew also needs a coxswain to lead and steer the boat. Most of the team members had no rowing or coxing experience before they joined the team.
Each team member makes his or her own experience. Some team members are serious athletes who thrive on competition, while others are more interested in the close relationships formed by teammates. All types of athletes are welcome on our team.
Rowing at Miami is a club sport, which means the team is run for students by students. We are blessed with a wonderful coach, Randolph "Duck" Wadsworth, who has more than fifty years of experience with the sport, but the team is run b
y a twelve member Executive Board elected by the team each spring.
We appreciate your interest in the Miami University Rowing Club. We will post a fall schedule with info session and conditioning times in the coming months. If you have any questions or would like to let us know you are interested in trying out, please contact
