Just as I am finishing
this, a book I had requested through the library arrived. It is Part 3
of the autobiography of William Jerden, the longtime lover of L.E.L.,
and the father of her three children, according to Cynthia Lawford. I
have not had a chance to read any of it, but inside the front cover are
two great pictures. The first of a young Letitia,
age 25 and the second is an engraving of "Miss
Landon's residence in Hans Place."

Fashion The
poem,"Sans Souci," mentions fashion and hairstyles in several
places, and many of the gifts books are full of engravings, paintings
and pictures of women in all sorts of fashionable attire. Here are some
pictures of the fashions of the day from a book I found titled English
Costume from the Fourteenth through the Nineteenth Century, drawn
by Iris Brooke and described by Brooke and James Laver (New York: Macmillan,
1937).
