Forget Me Not

by Henry Neele

[page 4]

Forget not, oh! Forget not me,
I ne’er shall cease to think of thee,
Oh, never, never!
While yet the life-blood warms these veins,
While yet my lyre pours forth its strains,
For thee this pulse alone shall beat,
For thee that lyre its lays repeat,
And never find a theme more sweet,
No! Never–never!

By all those wondrous charms of thine,
By thy soft hear, destroy not mine,
Oh, never, never!
By the dark glances of thine eye,
By they sweet smiles’ bland witchery,
By all those shining locks which rest
Upon that gently heaving breast,
Like halcyons on their billowy nest,
Forget me never!

Forget not love–forget not truth–
And plighted vows of earliest youth–
Oh, never, never!

[page 5]

[contd. stanza]
A heart that fondly trusted thee,
Blessings breathed oft and fervently,
Thoughts ever studious thine to please,
And folded hands, and bended knees,
Forget not, oh! Forget not these,
No! never–never!
