Brief History of Alpha Phi Omega: Alpha Phi Omega was founded by Frank Reed Horton at Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, on December 16th, 1925. He created the fraternity to strengthen men in the scouting ideals, to give them leadership experience, and to give service to others. The three cardinal principles-leadership, friendship, and service-exemplify these main objectives. Horton also hoped that Alpha Phi Omega would become global, and this goal has been realized with chapters emerging in the Philippines, Canada, and Australia. With Alpha Phi Omega achieving high position in the world, Horton hoped the standards of manhood, international understanding, and friendship would lead to a "better more peaceful world in which to live and in which to make a living and a life."
